The next version of Android, called either Android L or Android 5.0 will feature a new design language that was introduced by Google during their last I/O conference.  The new look of Android is called 'Material Design' and is meant to emulate the look of flipping through colored paper for a more natural, possibly pastel type effect.  The overall look is more colorful and flatter and is expected to be easier on the eyes while also more satisfying visually as you move through the operating system.

The site SAMMOBILE got their hands on an early build of Android L as it's being implemented on Touchwiz for the Galaxy S5 and has put up the above video where we get a good look at it.   While some of the familiar Touchwiz features and screen still retain much of their old look, we see that most if not all of the icons have been redone and there's definitely a new color scheme at work on multiple pages.  For all you Galaxy S5 owners it's worth taking a look at to see how your phone's OS will look in the next month or so when Android L starts rolling out to your handsets.

One of the great things about Samsung is that they spare no expense when it comes to providing marketing support for their new devices.  Now that the new flagship Galaxy S5 phone has been introduced they've come out with the above 'Introducing Samsung Galaxy S5' video which takes us on a tour of all the great new features...both hardware and software that the new device brings.

Starting with its new 'glam' design in four colors...Shimmery White, Charcoal Black, Copper Gold and Electric Blue, we then get a tour of the hardware with the new larger 2,800 mAh battery, 2.5GHz processor with 2GB of RAM, slim bezel and 5.1inch Super AMOLED Display, advanced camera with improved focus, 802.11ac 2x2 MIMO Wifi and more.  If you've thinking of picking up an S5 as your next phone or even if you're an S4 owner and want to see what the newer model brings to the table...it's worth the watch.

Samsung introduced the next generation of their Galaxy S phone, the Galaxy S5 during the Samsung 'Unpacked' event at the Mobile World Congress conference in Barcelona Spain yesterday.   Sporting a slight update to the design of the S4 with a new dimpled finish as well as chrome colored edging it will come in 4 colors, black white, gold and blue.  The S5 will of course include both upgraded internals and some new features when compared to the S4.

It's no secret that Samsung is the largest handset maker in the world with its Galaxy S line including the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 being blockbuster devices.  Web Ad firm Chitika quantifies this with data showing that while here in the U.S. the Galaxy line falls behind Apple's iPhone in total web use, they totally dominate all other Android handsets.   The above chart shows the breakdown with the S3 and S4 taking an impressive 33.9% and 23.8% respectively in total web traffic of Samsung devices.  These numbers represent web traffic between December 1st and 29th, 2013 and the percentages are of approximately 300 million impressions in the U.S. and Canada.

Interestly, Samsung's Galaxy Note line including the Note I, II and III make up only 13.3% of Samsung's total.  One interesting takeaway form the numbers are that the previous generation phones...such as the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note II have greater share than the current generation Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note III.   This might change as those generations continue selling since both have been out less than a year.   Now there's more information in the research released that pertains to tablet usage, with the key takeaway being that 7 and 10 inch devices are used more than any other size.

Galaxy S4 Android OS / Re: ANDROID PURE
« on: January 04, 2014, 08:18:24 PM »
Not exactly what you mean by Android Pure.   You mean with no skin?   Just plain Android 4.4.2 Kitkat?   In order to have that you'd have to root your device and put a custom build of Android on it.   Or you could buy the Google Experience version of the S4 through the Google Play Store.

If you've got young kids around this holiday then you'll want to take advantage of this great sale that Disney is having on many of their most popular games and apps through the Google Play Store.  Many of their most popular titles such as Where's My Water, Monsters Inc. Run, Temple Run Oz, Where's My Perry and more are only 49 cents each.  Some such as The Muppets Show, Disney Hidden Worlds and Nemo's Reef are free.  Definitely worth taking advantage of these prices and grab yourself a few Disney titles as a stocking stuffer on your Galaxy S4.  I personally recommend Temple Run: Brave and Wreck-It Ralph but heck, there's so many good titles here for both you and the kids I'm gonna grab a bunch more.
